Today I am discovering the music of a new artist, with a familiar surname. Violet Grohl is the eldest daughter of Nirvana drummer and Foo Fighters (she appeared on their 2023 single “Show Me How”) founder David Grohl. She has been quietly building up appreciative press for live appearances and early recording work which has led to her signing with Republic Records/Island EMI Label Group.

So…I do enjoy introducing new artists to our readers and I think this is an artist who will be attracting a lot of press attention in the years to come. For now, I will share the press information and then review the three tracks that are currently out there!

The Press Information:

“From the moment we met Violet, it was clear that she represents the next generation of artists,” Kristina Grossmann, SVP of A&R/Operations at Republic Records shares. “The music is immediate, intentional and her voice holds a rare duality. She is unapologetically cool and is a fearless female voice. We couldn’t be more excited to help bring her vision and this album to life.” David Wolter, EVP/Head of A&R at Republic Records, adds: “Violet brings a rare combination of perspective, artistry, and reverence for the craft. She understands the history of music, but she’s also pushing it forward. She is the future.”

Additionally, this week, Violet released a third track; this one entitled “What’s Heaven Without You,” a tribute to the late David Lynch on what would have been his 80th birthday. On the track, she shared: “This song was written in David Lynch’s memory alongside two of my favorite collaborators in the world, Persia Numan and Justin Raisen,” she says. “A few days after the chaos and devastation of the L.A. fires, we came together in our sadness and grief and let it pour out into this song. We hope you can find some resonance in it. The impact he left on art is truly magical. We miss you David.”

My review: These singles are out on all main platforms now.

“THUM” runs to 2.11 so it is a swift introduction. It has an indie-rock groove with some distorted instrumentalisation and a strong drum/bass anchoring. Vocally, Violet delivers. vocally she reminded me a bit of Becca Bottomley of The Marmozets, and the track has quite a strong contemporary rock vibe.

“Nausea” was an earlier release with David Grohl. It is a heavier track, more riff driven and with a pounding rhythm. The track has already had an immediate traction with big listening figures. It shows a pirate swagger and I did like it.

“Applefish”  is a sadder, dreamy ballad that can suddenly kick into this heavy drum driven segment. It shows a different tone, with more of a 90s feel to it. The three tracks here all present different sides of what Violet can do.

In summary: Violet is quietly but confidently positioning herself as one of the most exciting new voices in contemporary rock, blending sharp instinct with a clear reverence for the genre’s past. With early live buzz, growing critical praise, and a major signing with Republic Records/Island EMI Label Group, momentum is firmly on her side. Backed by heavyweight collaborators — including David Grohl, who appears on her track “Nausea” — Violet already sounds like an artist operating several steps ahead of the curve. These first releases hint at real depth and versatility, marking her out as one to watch as the spotlight inevitably grows.
