We have featured The Soap Girls a couple of times in the magazine, so I was more than happy to be passed this new single for review. The girls are, of course, a mainstay of the alternative music press and they have also featured in Classic Rock and Daily Express promoting their maxim of “be who you are, loudly and without shame.”
The Soap Girls are:
Camille Debray (Mille): vocals, bass, acoustic bass (2004–present)
Noemie Debray (Mie): vocals, guitar, acoustic guitar (2004–present)
Before having a listen to the new single, which is released now and available on all streaming platforms, I will share the press release with you:
“Running” serves as the first in a run of independent waterfall releases that the band plans to drop regularly throughout the year, alternating between pop-leaning and heavier rock tracks. This is the band’s most commercial sound to date: the song captures the tension between distance and devotion, pairing heartfelt lyrics with an energetic, forward-moving sound.
The single introduces the themes behind “Rebel DNA,” a project rooted in authenticity, emotional honesty and defiance.
“Running is about loving someone from a distance and never giving up on the possibility of reaching them,” the band shares.
Known for their relentless touring and explosive live shows, The SoapGirls are bringing this new era directly to the stage. The band will tour the U.S. in May, followed by potential dates in Japan in June, and a run across Europe and the UK from September to November 2026.”

My Review:
“It’s the feeling of motion without arrival. Of holding on to hope. Of running forward because stopping would mean letting go. Built on poetic imagery and an upbeat, driving energy, Running captures the tension between distance and devotion — “You can’t stop the sun or hide the moon.”
The band have definitely returned to a commercial vein for this new release. It feels like an early indication of what lies ahead on Rebel DNA, scheduled for release in late 2026.
Mie: I can’t wait for you all to hear our next album… it will be our fifth independently released album. You will find it very different, and that is what I love about being independent, we are not boxed in any way. It is always our song, but we diversify.
For me, this feels like a spiritual cousin to “She Don’t Wanna” from the last album — familiar DNA, but evolving.
This one has a strong backbeat, harmonies are nailed on and the whole song has that feeling of warmer days and lazy beaches. The video seals the deal — this is the Dr Pepper of their catalogue: distinct, a little sweet, and surprisingly addictive on a warm evening.
Some bands chase evolution. The Soap Girls do as they choose — wherever it takes them sonically. If “Running” is the opening chapter of “Rebel DNA,” it’s a promising, sun-drenched sprint into something bold.
