So here we are on Sunday evening, and have I had a quiet Sunday? No I have not! I have been decorating, so am actually covered in paint at the moment, and need a shower. However…time to squeeze a single review into the day and keep everyone at the magazine happy.
My choice for the evening takes me to the Netherlands for a listen to the new release from this vibrant female fronted hard rock outfit. For the more perspicacious of our readers, here is a brief run down on Queen of Spades. – press info coming up!
“Queen of Spades (QOS) is a Dutch based band challenging the parameters of what defines Hard Rock music. By bridging the divide between multiple (sub)genres while exploring the boundaries of femininity within the Hard Rock scene, they set out on the mission to shift the perspective surrounding the genre and target a wider and more inclusive audience.
QOS earned their marks in venues like The Little Devil, The Mezz, Stage Music Café, Breda Barst and as a support act for Woyote and The Dirty Denims.
QOS greatly values their growing following and devote their performance to give that dynamic, enthusiastic and spirited energy back. Sources of inspiration include; The Pretty Reckless, Halestorm, Metallica, Black Label Society, Spiritbox and a hint of Periphery.”
Right now one of my favourite rock bands is The Pretty Reckless (The Warning are really loved here at the magazine too), as their riff in “You Make Me Wanna Die” is to die for! So a band influenced by favorites of mine has to be worth reviewing!
In 2021 Queen of Spades released their first album ‘Devil In Disguise’. Since then, the band have continuously evolved to develop their distinctive sound.

“Chasm” was released April 15, so it is out on all platforms now.
My review – “Chasm” introduces a bit of goth rock into the Queenof Spades sound, with a touch of Amy Lee in the vocals. Built around a deep, heavy riff, it paints a world full of sorrow. I liked the in-your-face drum sound and the guitar breaks and what we get is urban hard rock with the feel of a dystopian movie soundtrack.
Right, I’m off to finally wash this paint off—but not before hitting replay one more time. “Chasm” is dark, gritty, and sticks with you… much like the band themselves are starting to. A tenebrous delight.
