Alas de Liona, has just released her new single Analogy off her upcoming debut album, ‘Gravity of Gold’.

A darkly gothic folk song full of shadows and storytelling twists.

“it’s a riddle, hang your head low

a practical game

with players you know.”

Born and raised in the Mojave Desert singer-songwriter Alas de Liona, now a Scotland resident, has released her new single Analogy.

Alas de Liona originally came to Scotland to complete a university course, during which her musical talents first emerged. In 2020, she took steps toward fulfilling her musical aspirations, recording her debut EP, ‘Radio Astronomy’, and releasing it the following year. The EP won praise from national radio and publications like BBC Radio Scotland, Amazing Radio, Scotland on Sunday, YMX, and Indie Music Center and was picked up by over 400 Spotify playlists.

In 2022, she made her debut at Celtic Connections, opening for Kathryn Joseph and Tinderbox in Glasgow. She has since opened for powerhouses like Rufus Wainwright, Travis, Callum Beattie, Sister Sledge, and has played her first headline shows in Glasgow and Edinburgh. She also appeared as a special guest alongside Hamish Hawk and Admiral Fallow at The Proclaimers‘ Big Top Concerts.

Alas made the permanent move to the UK and is now based in Edinburgh, where she’s so far amassed acclaim from the likes of BBC Radio Scotland, Amazing Radio, and Scotland on Sunday, plus over 400 Spotify playlist features. She’s also headlined shows and supported powerhouses like Rufus Wainwright, Travis, Callum Beattie and Sister Sledge.

As a review of the single, it is a song where the pitch of the drum sound really does drive the car. These great gothy vocals soar above that deep rhythm section, and the mood is urban and dark. I usually base my perspective on whether I want to hear more, and, in this case, I want to connect this track to the wider album. I sense the storyteller and a wider concept at play. The video takes us deep into an Edinburgh walk by Burke and Hare, it is music to listen to (preferably late at night by candlelight). I look forward to the album!
