Les Longs Adieux, composed of Federica Garenna on vocals and Frank Marrelli on guitars, hail from Rome. The band was born in 2020, during the pandemic. At this point, the duo has released five singles, a mini album (under the name of “Il Lungo Addio”), and a full album entitled “Piccolo Dizionario Di Parole Fraintese” in 2023, and they have joined several compilations. Their music has been described by Procession Magazine as a strange mix of new wave and electro with echoes of 80s dance floor fillers and a revisited aesthetic of post-punk fashion, and the duo themselves feel this is a fair reflection of their sound.

Back in 2024 we reviewed the album “Vertigo” by Les Long Adieux. On that occasion my colleague Lorraine reviewed the album and concluded that “These two clearly have the musical class to deliver a punky electro pop sound that should easily find an audience in 2024. To be fair, Lorraine usually covers country, so I’m stepping in here as this is more my lane.

My review:

The album was released on March 19, 2026. It is available now and runs to 9 tracks.

“San Fili” is the album opener. Dark and atmospheric, it feels like walking through a catacomb—brief, too, more a corridor of urban whispers that ends in a scream.

“Swan Song” is next up. It is dark, late night urban techno-punk. Les Long Adieuxx are musically experimental, not safely driving in a lane – this one includes a melody hook that feels pulled from a dystopia that hasn’t been written yet.

“Totally Unable to Fly” brings a more up beat to the table, vocals taking me to the techno bands of the eighties. Like much of the album so far it brings a science fiction feel to the beat, the chorus leans into a more commercial pop feel, with a dance beat woven underneath.

“Cumulonimbus” was a track I liked. It again brought a more techno-pop feel to the album. This was the most commercial radio friendly piece on the album, a strong beat and a fine emotive vocal performance. Solid thumbs up from me for this one.

“Le Soldat de Plomb” is interesting. A softer lingering look at a picture in a magazine. The tin soldier…the song is like a jigsaw of ideas, some French, some English from Italian artists – a song blending ideas with a pop-punk techno beat.

“Electric Transylvania” – might be the best vocal performance on the album, it is a dark and powerful vocal from Federica Garenna who is strong throughout the album. The bass works well on this sound montage.

“Arousal” – is a slower, grinding track with a lighter chorus. We switch languages and moods. Musically it is full of light and shade, shapeshifting moods.

“Bye Bye Moonlight” is an enjoyable late album track. Not one that grabbed me, but it has a chorus that holds its own and sounds blend and build nicely.

“Someone Else’s Life” closes the album with a shapeshifting track moving from darkness to light as the ghosts pass us by. It’s a confident, brash number to end on.

Well…this album did not disappoint. The duo continue to experiment and create some fine techno music. Think of the bogeyman under the bed—only this one has a killer sense of melody and occasionally slips out for a late-night dance under neon lights. This is the kind of album that doesn’t just soundtrack your night—it lurks in it. Equal parts shadow and shimmer, it’s music for dancing with things you probably shouldn’t.
