Our regular readers will know that I do the majority of the country music side of things here. Back in October 2023 I chatted to Taynee and we did a piece on her then new single “You Think You’re all That.” Taynee told me at the time, “I adore telling stories in my songs, and every song I’ve ever written has one. Whether it’s my own story of an experience I’ve felt or I know someone who has been through the situation. Before I write a song, I first sit down and think of a story from beginning to end about where I want it to go…” Since then I’ve been watching her profile grow by the year, and some really exciting outfits too lol (check out the cover placed lower down for “Heavy Air…” I mean!) But when I talk to country music people as I do, and the topic of names to watch appears, Taynee Lord is absolutely appearing more-and-more. So I approach the new single with interest.

First of all, pre-review, I will share the press release.

About the Song:

Creating a cinematic emotional heartbreak Taynee Lord’s new single “Insane” is about wishing someone to change their self-sabotaging patterns in order to find love but realising they will always deflect and blame you as they’re too stuck in their ways to change. This song is for anyone who wanted their ‘situationship’ to be more.

My review:

“Insane” was released on February 19, so it is on all platforms now. The song is a slight direction change, a little sadder and reflective in tone, more of a touch of late winter in the air. The melody is pleasing and the lyrics reflect the “crime that I was never heard.” It is how lost love can leave us insane. It’s a song that turns the dial down a touch, but I loved the little change in vocal delivery at 2.31 when she says “I suffered more than you.”

What “Insane” does brilliantly is prove that Taynee Lord doesn’t have to go full throttle to make an impact. She can pull it back, sit in the ache of it, and still hold your attention completely. There’s maturity in this release — a confidence in letting the story breathe instead of belting it into submission. And if you’ve ever found yourself replaying a situationship in your head at 2am wondering what on earth just happened, this one is going to hit home.

It’s another step forward from an artist whose trajectory feels anything but accidental. Taynee Lord isn’t just a name-to-watch anymore — she’s quietly building something that feels very real.
