Ervin has been very busy recently with a range of new singles and he’s been hitting the live circuit in his local area. This single, released on July 13, was originally sent over to Stevie to review, but my colleague had a heavy cold and was under the weather so it came my way. So I settled down late at night, with the children asleep and my cat keeping me company.

Regular readers here will know that I usually review country music alongside some pop. So this was a little out of my field, at least up to the 1.23 mark of the single. It begins slow, folk-like, and stripped back. But then it lifts up into a commercial pop sound, a catchy little chorus, a simple melody and a pleasing drum beat. It was a relaxing pick-me-up to end the day. I also would hope that it would attract the interest of radio stations, as it has a wider appeal. I know Ervin is seen as a folk performer, but he can turn his hand to a country pop blend very neatly. Although I chose to listen to the track very late at night, it could equally go down well with that morning cup of tea and piece of refreshing fruit!

I believe the single is pulled from a new album that is being planned for the latter months of 2024, and the single (along with the rest of the material for the forthcoming album) is produced by Aeron Z. Jones.

Ervin tells us that the song is ‘Inspired by the pop stylings of Sophie Ellis-Bextor, “Going Nowhere” delves into themes of relationship insecurities and the desire to stay together.’ Featuring Ervin’s trademark acoustic guitar flare and tight harmony vocals, the song proves the Norfolk based songwriter’s versatility, with elements of country music woven into its catchy folk melody. Speaking about the single, Ervin Munir shared, “‘Going Nowhere’ is a reflection of my personal experiences in relationships. It’s a plea to stay together, underscored by upbeat rhythms and heartfelt lyrics.”

As a last note, the cover for the single reminded me of the steps Jim Carey walks up to escape his existence on the ‘Truman Show.” I like interesting covers!
