We are proud here at Rock the Joint Magazine to have known Laura Evans for a few years now. She is a very hardworking and talented Welsh songstress with a solid band behind her. She has spent time on the road playing gigs, building up her audience and connecting to a growing fan base (including time on the cruise ships). She has songs now streaming with over 398,000 plays, and you don’t get that without talent and determination, and she has those in spades.

My own personal favorite is the song that drew me to her music in the first place, the brash country number “I’m Alright.” I still put that one on sometimes for a dance around my room, and my little three-year-old loves it too – which shows the beat connects to all ages, lol. I also enjoy “Drag Me Back In,” which has built-in high heels and strut.

As background, her debut album, “State Of Mind,” which topped the iTunes Blues chart at number 1, made her the face of the ‘Nu Blue’ editorial playlist, as well as continued support from Cerys Mathews on the BBC Radio 2 blues show and in 2024 saw Laura cross over to mainstream radio, landing on the BBC Radio 2 playlist with her single “What I’m Made Of.” With a busy touring schedule in the UK and Europe, Laura’s live performances have been described as a ‘girl who is the real deal, with a stunning voice and the range of styles within the album shows she has a mastery of a range of blues-influenced approaches she is making her own.”

This is the first single taken from her second studio album, set for release on October 17th. Ahead of the release, Laura will also be joining Robben Ford as a special guest on his UK tour this month (May) before her headline tour this November.

My review –

This single has this sad lyric laced with a strongly rhythmic drumbeat and melody. The song is one I’d like to have been driving to while having a listen! It was good music for Summer and the juxtaposition between the sadness in the lyrics and the more upbeat tempo worked nicely. I liked how it switched right at the end to the guitar strum for just a moment. It’s different in tone from the two tracks I referenced earlier; it is an interesting indication of what may lie on the album ahead. It will energize her fans who face an exciting and busy year ahead!

Single release date: May 6, so out on all platforms now.
