This EP came out in March, but that doesn’t mean it is not one to review. I was actually cleaning out the magazine inbox (we get sent so much, and we simply haven’t the staff to review so many) – and deleting older material when I came across Lisa T and in the first line she wrote: “I am an independent artist, no label or funding just me and my band…” and I knew that I can’t just put it to one side!

I coined the phrase ‘The New Wave of British Country Music” in a previous review and as the principal country music girl here this defines, for me, a real upsurge in some amazing British country music. Look toward Robyn Red up in Scotland, Amy-Jo in the North-West, Olivia Lynn down in Luton – and there is Lisa T.

As press information:

Manchester based, pop-country artist Lisa T released her highly-anticipated debut album,“Nice to Meet You… Again”, on Friday 28th March. Produced by acclaimed duo The Dunwells, this five-track collection showcases Lisa’s seasoned artistry, heartfelt storytelling, and a bold mix of modern country-pop sounds.

The Album highlights Lisa’s collaborations with an impressive group of co-writers, including Luke M Slater, Rachel Walker Mason, Gary Quinn, Joe Martin, The Dunwells, and Chloe Jones. From the kick-ass anthem “Nice to Meet You… Again” to the emotional ballad “Want You to Stay”, the songs are a testament to Lisa’s versatility and ability to connect deeply with listeners.

Both singles released from the album ‘Stop Loving Me” and “This Country Song”, have been spotlighted on BBC Introducing, earning Lisa critical praise for her emotive delivery and sharp songwriting.

Speaking about the album and the chart success Lisa shared: ‘Nice To Meet You…Again’ is about standing in your power and owning your own story. It’s ironic that ‘Nice To Meet You…Again’ was the title track of this album that hit that charts as it’s written about someone pretty senior in the industry that told me a few years ago I’d never make it. It felt pretty nice sending the screenshot of our chart position to that person I must admit! ‘

My review:

The EP has five tracks and lasts just under 17 minutes.

“This Country Song” opens the EP with a country dance number, just get on the floor and dance the way you feel! It connects elements of folk and country, a traditional feel and a vocal full of the love of music. Music positivity – and I definitely heard a “Yee Ha!”

“Mr Know it All” tells off that man who thinks he can break hearts. It has an older vibe, a sweet melody and a dance feel to it. I liked it – it made me feel happy, and that is always a good sign – it cuts the mustard nicely.

“Want You to Stay” is an acoustic piece, a ballad and a sadder song. It shows another side to Lisa’s vocals. It’s contemplative lyrically and an intimate song with a gentle sway. Listen to this one with a nice cup of tea or glass of wine.It pins the mid-point in the EP nicely and is the longest track on the EP at 4.20.

“Stop Lovin Me.” I liked this one! It has a rock edge and sets off with a strong slow beat that is a heartbeat for the EP. It has a big chorus too and I am sure this would attract some radio play, it has a strong commercial beat.

“Nice to Meet You- Again” continues a rock country fusion and kicks a decent amount of ass in the process. I like a song with an attitude and this track has plenty of that. Again a solid drum/bass groove drives the car and stomps through the headphones.

Lisa T might not have the weight of a label behind her, but what she does have is grit, talent, and a damn good EP. Nice to Meet You… Again isn’t just a calling card — it’s a statement. One that says British country is alive, kicking, and dancing in its own boots. If this is the new wave, then Lisa T is riding it like a pro, so pour yourself something nice, and meet her… again.
