“Nothing that you said was true, so I just wanna say Fuck You,” sings Lucy Gallant at the start of her new single.

The single holds that message, the liberation from saying to that piece of shit who made your life a misery for no reason, F you, you insane piece of ….. ! (my sentiment, that bit is Not in the song lyrics!) Now doesn’t that feel better, lol?

The single is released and out now on all platforms.

We have spoken to Lucy here at the magazine before; she is a hard-working, proudly independent artist who tours extensively and is one of life’s originals. The background on her is: Bright, colorful, and brilliant, Lucy Gallant has crafted her own genre, which she lovingly refers to as bohemian Folk-pop. Anchored in folk and enriched by a twist of soul and reggae, her sound is fiercely original, experimental, and avant-garde. The Australian songstress has been hailed as one of the most talented indie artists on the global circuit. Having toured the USA, South and Central America, Japan, Australia, the UK, and much of Europe, she has dazzled audiences at intimate venues and major festivals, including Glastonbury Festival (UK), Beautiful Days (UK), Art Basel (US), and Australia’s largest music festivals, such as Splendour in the Grass, Woodford Folk Festival, and Byron Bay Bluesfest.

My review- This single remains upbeat and bohemian with the dark underlying belly of the lyrics that give two fingers to the one you hate the most! Try listening to The Passerines, “I Shot That Fucker Dead,” and you quickly see that songs of this style have a social raison d’être to help keep us sane.  In her catalogue, it’s quite a long way removed from “Tonight,” for example. There is a hint of Lily Allen in this one, and when she spoke to us, Lucy commented, “I have always had an inner sadness and right now I am enjoying exploring that darker intensity. That is where I am right now, not being afraid to be more intense and dark.” The melody is sweet, the vocals celebrate “Fuck You,” and laugh along with saying so. This is folk pop, not perhaps for the radio, but enjoyable nevertheless in its own way.

Even a middle finger sounds like a revolution in technicolor when Lucy Gallant sings it.
