This was one of those moments when I thought I had reviewed something and then found I hadn’t. But I have now lol. I will just say that I have been cooking this Thai chicken and noodle curry that I delighted my family with a proper arsenal of flavor to keep even the teenagers happy! And with that success behind me I will share my thoughts on the new Fox and Bones release and see if they too can conjure up some spice for us all.

First, here is the press release:

Indie pop band Fox and Bones just dropped “Are We Still Having Fun?” the lead single and title track from their much-anticipated fifth album arriving later this year. Written as a response to an increasingly dark and complicated political and social climate, as well as the duo’s own burnout and stress as musicians who’ve been grinding it out for the past decade, the relatable song reflects their search for hope amid uncertainty.

The new single blends elements of Fox and Bones’ Americana and folk-rock roots with pop stylings that are both retro and modern, encompassing adult contemporary sensibilities. The track opens with a nostalgic chorus of gang vocals and bright guitars, and heavily features retro guitar and organ throughout.

The lyrics are crafted to evoke a sense of nostalgia, inviting listeners back to a simpler, more carefree time such as “Coming home with the streetlights // Sneaking out after dark // On the wrong side of midnight // To figure out who we are.” The closing lines “All of it is right here right now // We all gotta get there somehow,” remind listeners that the things they long for still exist within us.

Speaking about the single, Fox and Bones share:

“This song was a way of taking a temperature check on our desire to keep making music, and despite the hardships, the answer is still a resounding yes. It’s also a reaction to the world around us seemingly going up in flames, and a reminder to our listeners that we can choose joy right now – in the little things, in our relationships, in nature. But we have to make the choice to find it.”

My Review:

This single is out on all platforms now — in fact I am slow getting things done as it was released on April 24, 2026.

It is a nostalgic track with lovely harmonies and some infectious “la la las.” There is clearly a yearning here for those days when we first fell in love and found something to be starry-eyed about. It is about sneaking out after midnight, chasing dreams and believing the night might somehow last forever.

I see some of that spirit in my teenage son, and I know there is rather less of it left in me these days. That is what gives the song its emotional pull; it reflects those feelings we have when we get a little older and start taking stock of life. Are we still having fun? Fox and Bones wrap that question inside Americana-flavoured, radio-friendly pop with just the right touch of sadness.

So, Fox and Bones may be asking difficult questions, but they do so with warmth, melody and heart. In a world that often feels exhausted and cynical, “Are We Still Having Fun?” reminds us that joy is still there if we are willing to go looking for it.
