This is a review of the new single by Bronnie, “Own Girl, Own World,” which is out now on all platforms (it was released on April 24). Bronnie is a well-known independent artist on the country scene and she has built up a strong line of fans, as the press release tells us. Her debut album, “Jaded,” came out in 2024 and ran to some funky-colored vinyl versions. I was looking forward to having a listen.
Championed by BBC Radio One, Capital FM and others, Liverpool-based Bronnie has already put her stamp on some of the UK’s biggest music industry platforms. Independently, she has become a touring and recording force, supporting the likes of Little Mix and Sophie Ellis-Bexter, and, by bringing her high-energy country rock riffs, has built an audience of over half a million on social media, attracting the likes of Louis Tomlinson (One Direction), Ryan Seacrest, and James Phelps (Harry Potter).
Songwriting has always been a passion of Bronnie’s and it became clear that she had a pure talent for it when she broke the ‘songwriting score’ record at Paul McCartney’s Music College, LIPA, which had been held since the 90s. Every one of her 5 EPs has hit the Top 3 in the UK rock charts, with her previous single release ‘SCREAM’ and others hitting #1 in the UK and Ireland and the top 10 in Poland, Belgium, the Netherlands, France, Slovakia, and Germany.
This is what Bronnie says about the single:
“A few years ago I was looking back at old home videos of myself singing along to Hannah Montana in my bedroom when I was 8. Just like a lot of girls growing up, I knew all the songs, all the dances, all of her merchandise and my 4 siblings and I would walk around our home pretending there were secret cameras filming us for my own show called ‘Own Girl in Her Own World. After watching those home videos, I was thinking about how cool ‘Own Girl in Her Own World’ would be for a song title. So late one night I sat down with my guitar and started writing what is now called ‘Own Girl Own World. I wrote the chorus with my 8-year-old self in mind so she can finally have her own theme tune to the show she always wanted to star in. This song was also written as an anthem for the girls who grew up with similar idols and dreams.”

My review:
This is a whimsical single bringing out a more traditional country sound with the storytelling and uplifting emotional connections. I liked how the chorus soared and flew. It’s highly melodic, definitely radio friendly and should have an easy commercial appeal. I liked the little shift to a stripped-down moment of acoustic late in the song too. It is certainly strong enough to hold its own alongside all the noise that is out there and I have a feeling we will be hearing a lot more from this talented young lady.
