To be honest, we were on the verge of sending out a search party for Olivia Lynn! I recall that a year or so ago my colleague Lorraine was saying watch out for Olivia, definitely a rising star of the British country scene, and then she disappeared! Thankfully, she’s back!

One of the central reasons Lorraine was pushing Olivia was the very excellent back-to-back releases of “Ain’t it a Shame” and “I Saw Red”—two songs full of modern country sass.

Then Olivia split from her original management company and spent some time in Spain. But I gave a smile when I saw her new release, “Open,” announcing her return, and quickly grabbed it from the intray of new releases we get to choose from!

When we last spoke to her a couple of years back, she was only 17 (I think), and she said to us, “The interviews and podcasts have been building up since the door opened. I can fit my fingers through, but I need that door to open more.”

Well…the press release we have tells me Olivia is set to release her latest single on January 24, 2025, in the hope of replicating her other early successes. Having parted ways from her former management team in early 2024, Olivia has taken some time to write raw new material in her very own unique UK Country Pop style with her lyrics based on her real-life experiences. This is the very first release in an exciting new era for Olivia and she is looking forward to her fans and the music world in general hearing and enjoying “Open.”

So, she is back, and you can catch her live at the Longest Day Festival in June, linked here, where she is back live.

My review: “Open” opens with some acoustic guitar and reflective lyrics. It musically reminds me of a touch of Dolly Parton lyrics and Miley Cyrus (circa “Younger Now” album) music. The lyrics show introspective contemplation, that feeling of how we face family and friends when we mess up—let’s face it, we all do that. My uncle once told me that we never ever set out to mess up, but as humans we seem to stumble sometimes, but get up again! That is the message here: get up again.

Olivia told us, “I wanted to come back with a bit of an upbeat fun song that you can tap your foot or bang your tambourine too.”

In that the single meets the job just fine, it carries you along with a lovely country music beat, but the lyrics underneath show emotion and distress that are easy to connect to as we have all been there.

Welcome back!
