Although this magazine has often reviewed pieces by Rebecca Richards, this is actually the first time I have heard of her, as I am a newbie here! I am actually here till September, when I go to University to study journalism, so I am doing an internship here over the summer to learn the ropes and am having a great time!

When this one came my way, my colleague Lorraine said that I should play “Aces High” first, as this was a banger of a release from January 2025. I agree that it was absolutely worth a listen! So having played that, I read the press release and then had a listen to the new single. I will share the press release with you:

Her last single, “Aces Are High,” reached number 2 in the British and Irish Hotdisc Top 40 and number 9 in the European charts and featured a play on Bronwen Lewis’s Country Show on BBC Radio Wales. In both 2023 & 2024 she was shortlisted for the UK Country Music Radio Song of the year Award where she played live at the grand finales and in June 2025 won country / folk artist of the year at the Love Live

Music Awards.

The story behind this song is a tale of love eclipsed by obsession, jealousy and the resulting devastation and ultimate demise it brings, and yet…it will have you singing along with its catchy chorus and bopping to its summery, infectious groove. “Amber” sees a return to producer Stef Judd of Flatland Kings fame, who previously co-produced “The House” and “Aces are High.” Rebecca says, “I love working with Stef; he somehow always manages to capture exactly what I’m going for in a song.

My Review:

“Amber” is a light and airy song, a gentle summer breeze blowing through the dry days of July. This is a song with a gentle cowgirl sway and you could see it played with a few drinks and a smile on the face of the listeners. It is a song about the girl who took away your man, lyrically jealous, but the melody is too upbeat for angst! It is country pop, well produced and deserving of radio play. I liked how at the end it stripped the instruments back for a moment. It’s a gentle swaying. Radio 2 track, so get playing it on the radio!

So, if you’re after a song that bottles up heartbreak, wraps it in sunshine, and hands it to you with a wink, “Amber” is your track. Just don’t blame Rebecca if you find yourself humming it at full volume while glaring at your ex’s new girlfriend.

And we hope you liked the review, dear reader! If you did, please check out the other pages of the magazine; we have many great features, merchandise, editorials, and even poetry!
