Ervin Munir, the folk singer-songwriter from Norfolk, released his new single, “Break Me,” on the 22nd of November 2024.
Following on from “Did I Miss It,” his last release, and staying loyal to his folk roots, Ervin creates a real story of heartbreak in “Break Me,” stirring you with his own, vivid narrative. Speaking about the emotional heart of the song, Ervin says, “Break Me” examines the vulnerability we experience throughout a breakup—the hurt, the times of introspection and acceptance.
It is out on all streaming platforms now and the press release tells me that ‘with his sparkling voice and acoustic guitar skills masterfully matched by the lush, layered accompaniment, the song emphasises Ervin’s unique sound. Aeron Z Jones adds soulful electric guitar, piano, and bass that give “Break Me” depth and character.’
My Review:
I wonder if a sad song is really best for winter.
With a touch of Simon and Garfunkel, this song manages to show a strong commercial appeal that should surely attract radio play. It is a well-crafted, mature piece of songwriting that blends in a great chorus and some harmony background vocals. I liked the track lyrically and it has a blend of pop in the folk mix, making it a great end for Ervin in a busy 2024 for him. I would say that I personally feel this is Ervin’s best release of the year, I went back and had a second listen and it packs a punch. I’m watching him grow an audience, and with tracks as strong as this the momentum should only continue into next year.
