For my first review of 2025, I am listening to Jennifer Marie with her new EP, released officially on all platforms on January 10. The EP runs in at just under 18 minutes.

In my information pack, I am told that Jennifer is an artist, wife, and mother of two daughters. The listener is destined to discover an incredibly inspiring vocalist, gifted pianist, and relatable storyteller. Now, as she releases her new sophomore EP, “Do It All Again,” Jennifer Marie sends a hopeful reminder that no matter your story, your dreams can come to life once again. No matter your season of life, believe in yourself and never doubt what you are capable of.

“After having our second daughter, I felt the need to put my writing and music on hold to raise my young family,” says Jennifer Marie, who first put her music-writing pen to paper at the age of 15. At the time, as she regretfully laid down her gift of music, she felt like a flame went out in her heart. But she rekindled that fire during her family’s annual vacation in 2020. During the week, sitting alone by the fireplace at a secluded cabin in the Minnesota woods, it was made very clear to her that it was time to begin writing again.

“Take Me Back” introduces me to the EP with a stylish guitar feel, a decent beat and some fine vocals. It is airwave friendly—the type of track I would happily listen to on the radio while doing the cooking! It was enjoyable.

“Do It All Again” is more serious. I noted the little harmonies, the background use of the rhythm and a very simple drum-style beat.

“You Got A Hold On Me”  is romantic and plays with this click of drum sticks (perhaps!) to create this bit of background while the song washes over you. It is a song with its own inner strength; it is reaching out to that significant other when you have the person you want just beside you.

“I’m Releasing”  is quite soulful; it has a nice, uplifting groove that builds to the chorus. It is a bit poppy, and in British terms, it has a nice Radio 2 feel to it. I think it is the single and has a promotional video (below) that tells its story well. I liked the camera angles on it and it took me on a drive with the track.

“How Do I Get There?” is a stripped-down track with simple piano and vocal contemplation. It touches on the Beverley Craven sound. Jennifer says about this one, ““‘How Do I Get There’ was written directly from my feelings of frustration that I wasn’t where I was supposed to be. I started my music journey in May of 2021 and within 2 years had fallen flat on my face so hard that I questioned whether or not I should keep going,” she remembers. “Those are really hard realities to walk through when everything within you wants something different than what you’re experiencing.”

In summary, in these troubled times, it is great to have an artist celebrating life and love. The EP is a blend between pop and soul; I would point toward “Take Me Back” as the most obviously commercial, but there is a lot of depth on the EP and some fine listening for those early hours past midnight.

Standout Tracks: “Take Me Back” and “You Got A Hold On Me.”
