Las Fenestras is a brand new roots rock project featuring vocalist, songwriter, World Music master percussionist, drummer and session musician Simon Webster; lyricist and award-winning broadcaster Pete Feenstra; and multi-instrumentalist and innovative indie producer and recording artist Craig Marshall, aka AUDIO 54.
Released January 27 and available to stream now.
Pete came up with the idea and lyrics, while Simon worked out the chords and melody and added a great vocal and a dynamic falsetto in the middle. Craig built the track and added the wonderful sonic detail with samples and drop-ins such as the Cuban piano, Mariachi trumpets, a throbbing bass line and layered BV’s.

Cuban Son – lyrics

Upset the USA,
History will judge me,
Is what he used to say…”

My Review:
So, an homage to Fidel Castro! The video accompanying this is fairly cool in a laid-back Latin way (still taken from the video above). It kind of plays with the cha-cha and if you want to cha-cha, make it smooth! The harmonies are nicely smooth and the rhythms take you toward those hotter nights. There is much to like about a communal dance on a warm evening and a sunset on Cuba, which I am sure is a wonderful memory. I am happy to have a little feel for world music and it inspires those thoughts of simpler times and nights of cigar smoke in a busy Cuban bar in the sixties. I’m not sure if I’m bothered about saying goodbye to Castro, but the song was an entertaining few minutes with a strong bass beat.
