It’s been a week of artists we know! Several musicians we’ve followed over the years have released singles or EPs around the same time, keeping us busy here at Rock the Joint Magazine.
This latest single comes from Lorenza Wildcard, whom we interviewed back in 2025 — I think! Time certainly flies when you’re having fun.
Artist Bio:
Lorenza Wildcard is a multiple award-winning and internationally acclaimed solo artist, singer-songwriter, and performer. She’s best known as the pioneer of her signature Volthemic sound — a surge of electrified indie-rock anthems, raw emotion, and post-punk grit.
Rejecting labels and conformity, she lets artistry lead the way — spanning garage pop, indie rock, post punk, and dance while maintaining her distinctive voice and raw emotional edge. With a gritty yet versatile timbre, her vocals channel passion and authenticity over ornamentation or restraint.
About this song:
“Dark Water Lies” is a dark, emotionally charged pop-rock track driven by a hypnotic 95 BPM pulse, raw yet soothing vocals and a strong melodic hook. The song explores betrayal, deception and the moment of confronting the lies someone has left behind.
Musically, it moves between sensual and hypnotic textures and a firm, driving rhythm, built around a smouldering guitar riff, a funky bass line and punchy drums. The contrast between the darker atmosphere and the infectious groove gives the track a tension that keeps building beneath the surface.
A song about reclaiming your voice and power — turning betrayal and broken pieces into freedom. Raw, seductive and unapologetic, “Dark Water Lies” is a pop-rock track with a pulse you can feel.

My Review
The single is released on all platforms on October 24, 2026.
“I know you ate your lies,” sings Lorenza Wildcard, opening “Dark Water Lies” with a line that immediately establishes the track’s uneasy atmosphere.
This is a stripped-back, slightly chilling piece of music, with an icy quality that sets it apart from the artist’s more familiar territory. The vocals sit within a minimal musical arrangement that occasionally hits harder through the drums and bass, allowing the track to build tension without overwhelming its central performance.
There’s a hypnotic pop beat at work here, but this is distinctly late-night music, preferably listened to by candlelight. The vocal delivery is particularly effective, carrying something conspiratorial and conversational about it. Lorenza sounds as though she’s letting you in on a secret, drawing the listener into an intimate space where the line between vulnerability and accusation becomes increasingly blurred.
The arrangement is restrained, but that doesn’t mean it lacks impact. The rhythm keeps pulling you forward, while the darker atmosphere gives the song a quietly unsettling edge. Then, at around 2:32, a little guitar break echoes the central riff, adding a neat instrumental touch without disturbing the track’s carefully maintained mood.
Having heard Lorenza’s music before, I found this a little outside her usual lane — and that’s precisely what makes it interesting. “Dark Water Lies” explores a different shade of her musical personality, favouring atmosphere, intimacy and a slow-burning tension over the more overtly electrified approach we might expect.
There’s a hypnotic quality to the song that lingers after the final notes, leaving you with the impression that not everything has been said, and certainly not every secret has been revealed.
“Dark Water Lies” finds Lorenza Wildcard exploring the darker, more restrained side of her musical personality. The minimal arrangement, hypnotic pulse and intimate vocal delivery create a late-night atmosphere in which betrayal and confrontation simmer beneath the surface. It’s a subtle departure from her more familiar sound, but one that demonstrates the value of an artist willing to explore new territory. Sometimes the quietest songs leave the deepest impression, and this one certainly has its own dark appeal.
