It is good to see a new single from Wailing Banshee. We spoke to them maybe a year ago, and it’s always good to see artists we know gaining traction and a growing fan base. At the time we asked:

Banshees are women of the fairies, I believe. Female lead vocals…are you looking at the myth side of things in your lyrics and music?

Al: Absolutely! Our first EP was a bit more on the futuristic and dystopian side, but the music we’re recording at the moment definitely has some more fantastical elements to it. Think ancient religions and rituals! Dani and I are both really keen on ancient folklore these days, so maybe we’ll be seeing more songs written with this in mind in the band’s future!

I was hoping that this would be the case with the new release, and with the support of a new video and single artwork, I’m looking forward to a listen. Here is the press release first:

Vocals – Dani Louise

Guitars – Al McKenzie

Guitars – Harry Darbyshire

Bass – Richie Parkhouse

Drums – Sean Murphy

My press release tells me:

Combining old-school sound with an infectious, fiery energy and fierce female vocals, Wailing Banshee are quickly rising in the UK music scene, having gained a dedicated following since the release of their debut EP, ‘Fight To Be Free,’ in 2024. With thunderous drums and masterful twin guitars, the five-piece band spearheads a traditional metal revival, captivating audiences across the UK with their high-energy performances.

‘Silence’ was written by guitarist Al before there was even a band to play it. The song sat on the back burner for two years, until new members Dani and Harry helped to finish the song, and it was finally recorded. The lyrics explore the story of two lovers hiding their true feelings and wondering if there can ever be more for them, all shrouded in occult imagery. Wailing Banshee embraces a new, darker sound with this enchanting new single.

My Review:

“Silence” is a big commercial, airwaves-bound, melodic rocker. It has one of those power choruses that lifts you up along with the volume. Lucifer falls and we dance in the moonlight for this one. It features a great drum sound around 2.19 before the guitars join in. Those drums from Sean really provide the heartbeat for the track. Dani is in fine form and is one of the rock vocalists to watch out for in 2025. A note on the video: it adds some fun (and candles) to the track. I think it’s just as well we have female reviewers here, as my male colleagues would definitely become distracted (!). I note this because I feel Wailing Banshee is a very visual band and Dani certainly demands attention.

“Silence” is proof that Wailing Banshee isn’t just making music—they’re casting spells!
