Okay, so we slip into Sunday evening with a late-night review. It’s just getting dark outside and the daytime warmth has dipped to evening chill. I have put down my book (I am reading ‘The Angel of the Crows’ by Katherine Addison for readers who like to know these things) – my teenager is happily playing on his Nintendo and the cat is sleeping peacefully after a hard day sleeping! So what better than to find myself a late evening piece of music to review…

I will pass you over at this stage to a press release:

“The single is a warm, heartfelt ode to unconditional love inspired by her dog, Honey. Rooted in the same prairie-born storytelling and emotional sincerity that defines her artistry, the track captures the deep bond between humans and their beloved pets. With its catchy hooks and heartfelt storytelling, “By My Side” showcases Moonflower’s signature ability to weave intimate life experiences into widely relatable music, setting the tone for Fairy of the Prairie, due out in Fall 2026.

Written in a moment of pure inspiration, “By My Side” was born at a home songwriting session with Honey at her feet. The song’s opening chorus came naturally to Moonflower as she reflected on the loyalty, joy, and irreplaceable presence her companion brings into every part of her life. What followed was a songwriting experience she describes as one of the most effortless and emotionally honest of her career, with lyrics flowing as freely as the landscapes and memories that have shaped her journey as an artist. “It was as if the lyrics just poured out,” Moonflower shares, reflecting on the writing process. “Honey has been by my side through everything throughout my 20’s—the good, the bad, every adventure we take, she is there, even on stage. This song is about that kind of love that never feels like enough time, but fills every day with joy.”

Built around vivid imagery and a melodic, singalong structure, “By My Side” blends playful warmth with emotional depth. Featuring Grammy Award winning Nashville based banjo player, Kyle Tuttle, this groovin tune is certainly a soundtrack for romping thru the forest and driving down your favorite backroad with your best friend. From golden-hued descriptions of her dog Honey’s appearance, to its anthem driven chorus, Moonflower’s new track transforms a personal tribute into a universal love song—one that speaks to anyone who has ever felt the comfort and devotion of a loyal companion.”

My Review:

If you have read my reviews, you will know I am a cat girl through and through (I prefer cats to dogs as they don’t work for the police!) — however, I am always open to an ode of appreciation to our four-legged friends, so let’s have a listen.

The release date is May 15, 2026.

Watching the video, Honey is very cute and cuddly for a dog! The song itself has a lovely Americana feel and a strong chorus. Considering it is late in the day, this is very much a feel-good summer song, more a morning coffee and croissant track than a late-night glass of wine. It is the kind of song you drift along with and smile to.

Lily B Moonflower plays a neat guitar, and although this is the first time I have heard her music, I look forward to hearing more — always a good sign.

As the evening drew darker outside my window and I closed the curtains on the day, “By My Side” brought a little warmth back into the room. Sweet, sincere and full of prairie charm, Lily B Moonflower leaves me looking forward to the album ahead.

As the new single isn’t out yet at the time of this review, I include an earlier release by Lily B Moonflower here for your listening pleasure.
