One of the brightest stars in British country music in 2024 is Laura Aston. She is an artist we spoke to back a year or so ago, around the time of her single “Nothing Else Matters.” She’s great fun to talk to and we are so happy to see her go from strength to strength.
So I was pleased to get a listen to this new single by UK and Irish country singers Laura Aston and Noel Boland; its release date is September 12.
The press release tells me the duo reignited the 90’s hit ballad “In Another’s Eyes” that was originally recorded by Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood. This song won the Best Country Collaboration with Vocals at the 40th Grammy Awards. Before moving on, here is a little known fact about Garth Brooks. In 1994, he contributed to an album honoring the music of hard rock band Kiss with their song “Hard Luck Woman.” It’s a great version, and you can find it on YouTube!
Returning to the remake of “In Another’s Eyes,” it’s out on September 12th, but you may have already heard it on country radio, as I know it has been pre-released for radio play.
My review:
Laura Aston and Noel Boland deliver a strong version of the classic track, a slow emotional track running at just over 3 minutes 30. It is delivered with vocal style and harmony, the two vocalists trading off each other with the piano, leading us in at the start before a simple instrumental joins. It has a very traditional country sound and is a respectful and pleasing return to a track that tells a story with a touch of sadness there.
