I last came across Call of Sirens when they released “Puppeteer” in November last year. The new single is “Siren,” and it was released on January 31, so it is out there on all platforms now.
As background, Call of Sirens is a four-piece band hailing from Portsmouth, UK, featuring Emily Marden on vocals, Andy Bawden on guitar, Matt Hance on drums, and Josh Lebow on bass. Known for their electrifying stage presence and thought-provoking songwriting, the band has built a reputation for producing music that resonates with listeners on a deep, emotional level. Drawing influence from legendary alternative rock acts like Flyleaf, Skunk Anansi Paramore, Halestorm, and Evanescence, Call of Sirens has cultivated a unique sound that balances powerful storytelling with an energetic, melodic rock aesthetic.
When I reviewed “Puppeteer,” I noted a raw rock sound, emotive and funk-infused.

My review: The new single is quite slow and heavy, with a strong bass sound and cymbals resonating to a lyric where the listener is drawn in by the siren’s voice, probably to their destruction (“she will swallow you whole”). This is a single that has a psychedelic dynamic in the guitar sound, a steady beat and a song that tempts the listener to heed the siren call. Running in at 5.16 minutes, it is more of a musical exploration by the band, a little less commercial than their last release but one that should provide a secure musical part of their live show.
