I always say it’s better having us girls on the reviews as it stops the boys getting distracted by the publicity shots lol.
Orianthi has, it must be said, a very impressive CV. The press release tells us that for those new to the singer, songwriter, and master electric guitarist/effortless shredder’s multi-faceted musical aesthetic, her resume includes an almost historic run of shows with Michael Jackson (hired for the London performances before his sudden death) and years-long collaborations with Alice Cooper, Dave Stewart, and Richie Sambora.
“Some Kind of Feeling” is the title track single taken from the album of the same name. The highly anticipated album is set for release in 2025. It was released on 15 November.
I don’t get that easily impressed by resume’s, but hers certainly does make me look!
With each new fiery, emotionally impactful single on Woodward Avenue Records, the great Orianthi reveals something fresh in her ever-evolving artistry, and her latest infectious, blues-inflected gem, “Some Kind of Feeling,” produced by the legendary Kevin Shirley (Journey, Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin), is no exception.
My review: The single opens up with a strong, funky rock feel, commercial and contemporary, a very good fit for rock radio. I would want to play this while I was driving along on a summer day, but it would chase away the shadows of winter just as nicely! The chorus has one of those immediate hooks and there is a clap-along feel to the piece that I am sure would connect with a live crowd. The guitar work is slick too. We may indeed all be looking for something, and if you are looking for a solid piece of commercial radio rock in Winter 2024, then this one should please nicely!
