At heart, Gospel music underpins so much of popular music. From Elvis Presley to Nina Simone, its roots have run deep through the development of modern music. Moving into 2026 and beyond, it is no surprise that Gospel, as an expression of Christian worship and praise, continues to find new ways to reach listeners. The technology may change, but the desire to express faith through music remains.

This track was submitted to us for a listen, and I liked it on the first run-through. However, I wanted some clarification from the artist about the extent to which AI had been used in the recording process. I believe it is important to be upfront with our readers about these things, so we reached out to Duwinn Yahswirq, a Christian artist based in Philadelphia who works across Gospel, soul, R&B and pop.

The song in question, “I’m Yours”, explores that moment when carrying everything alone becomes too much, and the realisation that we need to turn to God for help and belonging.

I asked Duwinn about the recording process.

Duwinn: “I write the lyrics and melody myself. I also record my own vocals and upload them to Suno. Suno references my voice and helps me get an improved vocal version of the song. So my voice is the starting point, but there is AI involved in the vocal result. I also use Logic Pro along with Splice for my production.”

So, that’s interesting, and Duwinn is by no means the first artist to tell us that they use Suno in the process of music creation. Crucially, however, Duwinn remains the songwriter, creating the lyrics and melody before using AI as part of the production process.

I wanted to understand why this approach appealed to an independent artist.

Duwinn: “I use Suno to make song references. Traditionally, getting a song from the idea in my head to something I could let people hear might mean paying a work-for-hire vocalist, booking studio time, and bringing in a co-producer and an engineer. As an independent songwriter, those costs add up. This gives me another way to develop what I’ve written and hear it take shape.”

This is an important consideration. As we’ve heard from other artists during 2026, AI tools can provide a means of taking musical ideas forward, particularly for independent musicians working with limited budgets. The question of where we draw the boundaries between technological assistance and the creative process remains open to debate.

Duwinn has his own perspective on that debate.

Duwinn: “I look at AI as the latest innovation in a long line of changes to making music. DAWs, Auto-Tune and Melodyne are the comparisons that come to mind for me. They aren’t the same technology, but they make me think about how our ideas of making a record change as new tools become available.”

I think this is one for debate, but probably not here! I simply felt it was important to explore with the artist exactly how they engage with the process, rather than leave our readers guessing. Transparency matters, particularly as these technologies become increasingly prominent in music production.

I asked Duwinn what he ultimately hoped listeners would take away from the song.

Duwinn: “For me, it opens a door to express songs I’ve written and messages I want to share. That’s why I describe my work as AI-assisted, and why I’m happy to explain the process openly. With “I’m Yours,” the heart of the song is that moment when carrying everything alone becomes too much and you finally ask God for help. That’s what I want the listener to connect with.”

My Review

The single is out now and available through the artist’s website, which I’ve linked at the end of this review.

“Lord help me, Lord heal me….Lord I’m yours.”

Duwinn has created an uplifting song that is both an act of worship and a declaration of praise, seeking the healing that comes through a relationship with God. When we are weak, our faith can sustain us, and with God at our side, we can find the strength to overcome difficulties.

The vocals give the track a choral quality, with the backing chorus adding depth to the sound. It is an accomplished and pleasing listen in its own right, with the vocal arrangement helping to convey the sincerity of the message.

Did I connect with the idea that God will be there for us when we ask for help in the storm? Yes, I did.

Musically, this is not a complex composition, but perhaps that is beside the point. Its power lies in the message and the vocals, which come together to create something that feels like a prayer set to music. There is a simplicity here that serves the song well, allowing the central sentiment to remain firmly in the foreground.

And what of the technology behind it? Knowing how the track was developed adds another dimension to the listening experience, but it doesn’t remove the need to judge the finished song on its own merits. For me, the track works. It delivers a message of faith, vulnerability and surrender in a form that is accessible and uplifting.

As AI becomes an increasingly visible part of music creation in 2026, artists such as Duwinn are raising questions about how songs are made, who creates them and how new tools can help independent musicians bring their ideas to life. Those discussions will continue, and they deserve open-minded scrutiny.

For now, though, I’ll leave you with the heart of “I’m Yours”: a moment of vulnerability, a plea for help, and a declaration of faith. Technology may have helped bring the song to life, but its message is an altogether more timeless one.
