“Rebloom” was released on May 9. The EP follows up on her 2023 album, “Colours,” and we recently spoke to Chloe while she was taking a break from duties with Brave Rival (linked at the end of this review). That feature piece also covers all the tour dates that are imminent!

Chloe Josephine is a vibrant performer and songwriter from Portsmouth, UK. Her soulful vocals, expressive tone, and extensive range give her the astounding ability to combine the energy of Janis Joplin, the theatrics of Kate Bush and the vocal acrobatics of Ariana Grande.

Chloe also contributed lead vocals and songwriting credits to award-nominated albums (co-founded band Brave Rival) that received national radio play and outstanding reviews. This gives Chloe high praise indeed both as a live performer and recording artist.

My review:

There are five tracks on the EP; it runs to 21 minutes and it was released on all platforms on May 16.

“Rebloom.” This track features a singalong solo from Jonny Moody. It is very upbeat and is a song for the coming summer. It is a Caribbean song, a number for warm beaches and celebrating the sun. “Am I meant to be wild? Am I meant to be free?” Yes, we are, a track to kick your shoes off to and feel the sand beneath your feet.

“Feels Like Forever” is a soulful number, dreamy and more of a wisp of smoke on the breeze. It has an R&B feel to it and a bluesy feel to the melody. It is an uplifting listen (rather a lovely vocal performance from Chloe).

“Recognize” has a funky beat that you move along to. I liked the bit of attitude that this carried, a bit of acid in the lyrics that gave it some teeth. The chorus remains upbeat and the overall feel is definitely funky! I moved along happily to it, a cool coke in hand and the rhythm smooth.

“Liquid Gold.” Chloe dedicates this one to her daughter. It celebrates love and the acoustic guitar work that accompanies this one is lovely. We bathe in the liquid gold and the lyricism is again dreamy and melodic.

“Again” is a remastered phone recording from the archives; it is dedicated to the memory of Matt Long, whose tragically early passing impacted all those who knew him. We did a piece on Matt here at the magazine and he was such a nice man, much missed. The song has a demo that has been captured and remains in that moment it was sung.

Chloe Josephine’s EP is a little sunbeam of an album — part beach party, part heartstring-tug, all wrapped up in soulful charm. Whether you’re barefoot in the sand or lost in reflection, these five tracks give you permission to feel it all. Hit play, rebloom, and let the good vibes (and the memories) flow.
